Stepping out and purchasing an RV can seem like a daunting prospect. But getting out there and purchasing can be a lot less daunting when you go used. Buying new leaves purchasers subject to high rates of deprecation in the first few years of ownership. Buying used is the easiest way to avoid the loss of value and save money up front while still getting a high quality product.

Depreciation is usually sharpest in the first two to three years of ownership. That is the perfect age range to buy a used diesel motorhome. It is still new enough to avoid most maintenance or repair issues, and will likely still be in good condition cosmetically, depending on the care of the previous owner. A used diesel motorhome beyond a few years old can still be a safe and smart purchase, depending on use. Look at consumer reviews, consult warranty length, and consult a mechanic before making this investment.

The issue of warranties is an important one. This purchase is going to be a pivotal part of your travel experiences for years to come. When you are traveling is probably the worst time to deal with unexpected problems and delays. When you are in an unfamiliar area, it is harder to find reliable service and assistance, and breakdowns in the wrong place can be dangerous. For these reasons, many buyers choose to buy from a dealer or wholesaler.

There are several benefits to purchasing with someone who can offer a warranty from the manufacturer. First, because they are larger companies, they usually know the product well and only purchase well maintained used diesel motorhomes to sell. It is generally not in the interest of the business to sell unreliable products to their customers. Also, these businesses often have certified mechanics available to give you inspections of vehicle health in writing. Many offer quality and satisfaction guarantees, in the form of short-term no lemon guarantees, or longer extended warranties for purchase. These companies are also subject to rules of conduct based on local and state law, and are easier to hold accountable for problems than an individual seller.

Buying a used diesel motorhome is a wise decision for more reasons than just lower pricing. Diesel motorhomes, used and new, are generally the best products available in the RV market. All classes are the classic design of a self-contained vehicle and living space. Therefore, your living areas, bathroom, etc. are accessible to passengers at all times, although wandering around the motorhome while it is in motion is not safe or recommended. More importantly, these offer owners the ability to just get up and go as their whims, needs, or safety demands. Most diesel engines get a higher mileage rate than gas engines, making them more cost effective to operate. As far as comfort is concerned, these are the best of the best for cross-country voyages, or groups larger than three.

Lastly, these units really have the most choices when it comes to luxury. You can select a model that is quite simple in its amenities and your price will be at the low end of the spectrum, a truly budget-conscious option. There are also many lavish used diesel motor homes available with all the amenities of the nicest luxury home. Of course, for the majority of purchasers, there is the widely varied spectrum that falls in between the two extremes. Whatever end suits your needs, you will likely find that a used diesel motorhome is a top-end purchase.

Hiring a motorhome for travel around Scotland is a popular option for travelers to the northern regions of the UK. It could be the coastal scenery, the mountains and lakes or even the friendly people you meet on the way. Here are some suggested camper van routes that you may enjoy.

One of the attractions of hiring a motorhome in Scotland is that you are not too far away from the Hebrides, where you’ll find some excellent campsites. Glasgow to Oban and then on to one of the main Hebridean islands is a popular route. It only takes around a three-hour trip from Glasgow to Oban. Time enough so that you can get to know your van before settling down for the night. One of the highlights in this region is Loch Lomand, along with a choice of overnight camp sites. Enjoying in the sights, breathing in the fresh air and take the pace of life down a notch or two and you have all the ingredients for a great trip.

One of the larger islands is Mull, a great destination for motorhomers. A real Scottish wilderness with some amazing scenary. Home to the famous Golden Eagles, you may also see otters, Minke whales and dolphins around the islands. Once you’ve parked your van in one of the six campsites on Mull, it’s time to explore and take a walking tour of the peaceful hills of the island or discover the rocky bays to the north.

A well known tourist route is to drive along the Mallaig road towards the camping sites of Arisaig, where you will find plenty to see and do. Surrounded by stunning scenery, this area is a must see for all who visit the Hebridean islands.

To complete the tour, take your camper van to Skye by ferry, don’t worry it’s just a small crossing that will get you to another history laden island. Visit the Tallisker distillery or the many sights of Gaelic history. Leaving Skye, you can head across the bridge back to Glasgow the starting point of our tour.

The drive back to Glasgow will be the cherry on the cake. High mountains and yes, walls are among the impressive sights you’ll see on the way back. This is a real stop for camper vans, before you enter Loch Lomond Park once more. For first time camper van hirers, this is an excellent route to introduce you into the freedom lifestyle and one that will stick in the memory for a long time to come.

Buyers, by definition are looking to buy something. Smart buyers are looking to buy the “best” something at the “lowest” price. When it comes to major purchases, smart buyers are even more careful to get a great product at the best price. When it comes time to purchase a new or used RV buyers get out there and shop the market to discover which type of RV or travel trailer they are looking for, what size, what price, what features and options they’d like, but one thing they need to make sure to research thoroughly is the dealership. The dealership is actually the very first thing on the list of things to look into before making your RV purchase.

Getting to the right RV dealership means getting to the dealership that’s willing to work for your business. Expecting them to work for it doesn’t make you difficult; a good dealership expects to work for your business! There are a lot of RV dealerships out there; especially in highly populated areas so you’ve got choices.

First find out how long they’ve been in business. If the RV dealership you’re looking into has been in business at least 10 years…you should feel much more comfortable from the get go. A 10 year history of successful business is a traditional rule of thumb indicating that they must be doing something right! If they haven’t been in business that long, don’t write them off, but make sure to continue to look into their business!

Next check out their customer service. Do they provide a high level of customer service? Do they believe in delivering high rates of customer satisfaction? When do they provide great customer service? Do they provide great customer service while selling you a vehicle? Do they provide great customer service during the financing process? Do they provide great customer service when presenting you with your new RV? What about after you have the keys in hand? What about after you drive off the lot? You want a dealership that will be there for you when you need them not just when they need you to meet their sales quota.

Does their sales staff present a likeable sales philosophy? Does the dealership take pride in their sales staff and vice versa? The sales people should earn your business by exhibiting a respect for the customer, the dealership and the product and the sales transaction as a whole. Watch the sales staff closely; they’re a reflection of the dealership!

Take in the overall presentation. How do you feel when you walk onto the lot? Is it clean? Does it appear organized? What about the showroom? Does it feel comfortable and professional? Is the waiting room comfortable? What about the sales floor? A professional sales floor is clean and polished. Do they have an adequate inventory to provide you with the options you need or are they just trying to push the small inventory they keep in stock? If you take into account the little things, you’ll have a much better overall experience. And if you’ve found the dealership you feel comfortable working with; you can trust that they’ll help you find the RV that suits your needs!

But in most cases, you can attain the financing that you need to get yourself on the road in a nice new diesel pusher recreational vehicle.
